Greetings
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
For 10 years, the German State of Brandenburg and the Chinese Prov- ince of Hebei have been linked by the friendly bond of a partnership agreement. During this time, curious interest has turned into mutual trust. We will never forget the support that Hebei Prov- ince provided to Brandenburg during the coronavirus pandem- ic. We saw this as a sincere sign of friendship and are very grateful for it.
Brandenburg is determined to maintain and further expand the partnership in the future. We hope to see encounters between the people of both regions at every conceivable level. Economic exchange plays a special role in this. Here, individual action results in a collective benefit. That is why I was delighted to accept the suggestion to choose the People‘s Republic of China as the destination for the first business delegation from Brandenburg during my term of office. I am full of curiosity about the country and its people and would like to develop my own sense of the potential for cooperation.
The German Capital Region, which I represent, offers Chinese stakeholders numerous opportunities – for investment, cooper- ation, mutually beneficial business deals and, last but not least, employment. We combine a central location in the heart of Eu- rope with state-of-the-art infrastructure, a world-class scientific landscape and high-quality German vocational training. Eco- nomic Development Agency Brandenburg (WFBB) has many years of experience and particularly extensive expertise in sup- porting Chinese interested parties. It is available as a one-stop agency for all kinds of inquiries.
The Brandenburg companies accompanying me would like to establish new contacts and deepen existing ones. They stand

for innovative product ideas made in Germany, whose potential for the Chinese market they are convinced of. At the same time, however, they are also looking for partnerships with technology leaders from China, local hidden champions who want to trans- fer their ideas to Germany and Europe.
I wish the companies from both regions a fruitful exchange. Let us discover the strengths of our economies together! And let us use this knowledge to seize the opportunities for deeper coop- eration.

- A skilled workforce
Brandenburg offers qualified skilled workers. 62% of the working age population have an upper secondary school leaving certif- icate, a vocational education and training qualification or a full- time vocational school qualification. The proportion of those with degree-level qualifications is 30%. Excellent funding and adviso- ry structures are in place to support training. Brandenburg is the first federal state in Germany to deliver economic development and labour promotion services from a single source.

- Modern infrastructure
Brandenburg lies in an ideal location where three trans-Europe- an corridors meet. Since German reunification, work has taken place to achieve the complete modernisation of large stretch- es of 800 kilometres of national motorways, 3,300 kilometres of railway track, 1,300 kilometres of federal waterways and 11 inland ports. The Berlin orbital motorway creates rapid links into the German Capital from all regions. More than 35 million air passengers (2019) pass through Berlin-Brandenburg each year, and it has already established itself as the third largest airport location in Germany.

The Ministry for Economic Affairs,
Labour, Energy and Climate Action
35 years after its foundation, Brandenburg has become an at- tractive location for business, a leading energy producing state and a popular tourist destination.
Located in the vibrant capital region – a hub between East and West, benefitting from a high density of research and science institutions, Brandenburg provides optimal conditions for com- panies from all over the world.
Promoting the economic strength of Brandenburg is a key concern of the Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action. Considering itself a partner of business- es in Brandenburg, the ministry wants to continuously enhance Brandenburg’s attractiveness for firms and skilled workers.
The state government’s aid policy focusses on growth, employ- ment, innovation and technology transfer. A particular emphasis is put on small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), as they account for the majority of local firms. The Ministry for Econom- ic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action wants to support SMEs in successfully tackling challenges such as digitalization.
Given the importance of industry and energy production in Brandenburg, economic policy and energy policy are seen to be closely related. Maintaining production and employment in the energy sector are top priorities of the ministry.
Brandenburg is a pioneer in renewable energies. The Ministry for Economic Affairs, Labour, Energy and Climate Action be- lieves that the systemic integration of renewables, the develop- ment of storage technologies as well as the nationwide expan- sion of grids constitute key challenges for the coming years. At the same time, the ministry believes that conventional energies are indispensable for the time being in order to guarantee a safe and affordable energy provision.
