WAREHOUSE - OVERVIEW

This document defines infrastructure requirements for MDF and IDF setups in Warehouse environments, customized for small, medium and large warehouses.

WAREHOUSE SIZE CLASSIFICATION

Warehouse SizeApproximate Area

CABLING INFRASTRUCTURE

(cid:120) Horizontal cabling

  1. Category: CAT6A

  2. Maximum length: 80 meters (plus patch cords)

  3. Terminated to patch panels in racks

  4. 2 cables per WIFI Access Point

(cid:120) Backbone cabling

  1. Fiber between MDF and IDFs

  2. Type: OM3/OM4(multimode) or OS2(single mode for >300m)

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

Temperature: 20-26(cid:2952)C in both the MDF and IDF’s. If there is no air conditioning present in the warehouse there must be dedicated air conditioning for the MDF and IDF racks in the Warehouse.

Humidity: 30-60% RH

Fire Suppression: Required for MDF and IDF’s

**Fire suppression depends on the requirements (on-prem servers) in the warehouse

POWER AND BACKUP

House power: Required for all active equipment (Standard 220V/240V outlets)

Back up power: Required for the network equipment in the MDF/IDF. If there is no generator available in the building, a dedicated UPS is required at the MDF and the IDF cabinets. The specification of the UPS will be decided based on the number of equipment in the rack. The run time of the UPS should be at least 25-30 minutes (enough to maintain stability during a power outage).

[Seite 4]

Power Distribution Units (PDUs): Use rack mounted PDU’s for MDF/IDF with surge protection

LAN AND WIRELESS AP CABLING AND

MOUNTING

  1. Use CAT6A for all endpoints

  2. 2 cables per WIFI Access Point

  3. Maximum copper run: 80 meters

  4. Fiber recommended for runs between MDF/IDFs

  5. AP mount height: 10-20 ft (Depending on the ceiling and model)

  6. Cabling path: Use cable trays or conduit depending on the ceiling

  7. Labelling: Label switch ports, AP’s and path panels clearly according to the AP position

  8. LAN drops for:

(cid:120) Office workstations

(cid:120) Security cameras

(cid:120) Label printers

(cid:120) Shipping stations

(cid:120) IOT sensors

(cid:120) Wireless Access points

(cid:120) Badge readers

  1. Mounting:

(cid:120) Avoid mounting APs near HVAC ducts, high EMI sources (welders, motors)

(cid:120) In racked zones mount APs in the aisles, not on top of racks

[Seite 5]

BASIC HARDWARE

  1. Redundant SDWAN edges (2) At leasttwo switches for each rack(Quantity depends on the wh size and requirements) (3) One AP for 1000 sq. feet. (4) Two completely redundant Internet circuits (5) Local wireless controllers are required for large warehouse.
